In the last five decades, many time-tested
methods for solving problems have made way
for new solutions. The best example is probably
fire. For the longest time, firewood was the fuel
for fire. That same firewood that has been
man's indispensible aid for cooking for millennia
has made way for charcoal, coal briquette, gas,
induction stove, microwave oven and even
now, electrical cookers. The point being made
is that one no longer have to depend on
firewood or even fire, to cook. This continuous
renewal of solutions is a ramification of the
advancing technological progress that
characterises the times we live in.

“There are no new problems.
Only new solutions”
Today, in the field of human communications,
the progress in information technology helmed
by telephones and Internet has ushered in
newer and newer modes of personal and
interpersonal communication. Modes may
change, but one thing will hold steadfast -
personalised interaction. The personal touch
is irreplaceable and indispensible and it makes
all the difference in human communication.
In similar vein, organisations are what they are
because of their staff - the better the staff, the
more successful the organisation. But today's
organisations have learnt that they can have
good people at a fraction of the cost of
employing them. They outsource their services
instead of employ people. By outsourcing,
organisations get the right people for the job.
There are no salaries to pay, no benefits to
provide and no office space to rent.
This cost cutting leads to higher profits.
Outsourcing not only gets the work done,
it does it better. Just like the firewood example,
you still get the cooking done...
you just do not need a fire.
